Phuket - Beaches
Patong Beach
The most well known beach in Phuket is Patong. It is located on the West coast and is the most developed beach, this offers a variety of recreational, sports and shopping options along with the 3 km long Crescent Gulf. Some of the activities offered are windsurfing, snorkeling, sailing, swimming and of course sun bathing are among the most popular during the daytime.
This is the place you should go to if you enjoy meeting people, but also want to find a fantastic beach. In Patong you will find Phuket's most intense party center including a lot of bars, pubs and a few discotheques. Banana Discotheque is one of the discotheques that we recommend. You will also find restaurants serving everything from traditional Thai rice and noodle dishes to cuisine's from all over the world.
Karon Baech
Karon is a long and beautiful beach just South of Patong. It is one of the best beaches in Phuket for water sports. In Karon you will find a lot of cozy, good restaurants and accommodation. Karon is also the second largest beach in Phuket. Large hotel complexes form the natural lines that monitors the road and the shoreline. The sand is very white and nice sand, it is very soft to walk on, but keep in mind that sand can be very hot when the sun is on all day so it can be good to put on slippers when you go down to the sea and swim.
The southern part of the beach has a very nice coral reef that extends from Kata to Bu Island. Restaurants, bars, tour operators and other non-hotel business is located in the northern end of the beach. There is a daily bus service between Karon and Phuket Town.
Kata and Kata Noi Beaches
Kata beach and Kata Noi beach is located South of Karon. Only Laem Sai is situated in between. These are two smaller but groovy beaches. Both are a little more quiet then both Patong and Karon. Here You will find many good restaurants and resorts.
Bang Tao Beach
The eight kilometer long Bang Tao beach is located in the North-West part of Phuket. It has not attracted so many tourists yet, but there are some resorts and restaurants found here and it is also a great destination if you are into sports like golf, rock climbing and horse riding etc. Many of the inhabitants of Bang Tao are still doing their traditional (not tourist related) work and the number of bars are limited. Bang Tao is a perfect alternative for the visitor or family who give priority to relaxation in a comfortable surrounding. During the dry season is excellent swimming in Bang Tao with good visibility in the water. In the northern part of the beach, you find a small bay, almost completely hidden.
